Editing Blog: Music Video

A couple of days ago, My partner and I made quick work of the editing needed for our music video. There wasn’t anything major that needed to be done. We made sure to film small pieces of the song while singing so the most we would have to do was align them in the editing software, Pinnacle Studios. In the beginning,  we synchronized all of our shots with the song that we had chosen.
That song being  “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring, Wanz. Upon synchronization, the original audio had to be muted, to prevent clashing. After that, editing became a simple process. We had only filmed in two places, so the idea was to show multiple cuts between the two. The first scene being sped up to show us rummaging through clothes at a thrift store, then to a cut of my partner waiting, then to a scene of me being pushed in a shopping cart by the store owner.
Ultimately, the editing was easy. We ensured it would be this way by shortening our filming time, and ended up with a compilation of shots where my partner and I are singing the lyrics. Our video only really consisted of cuts, and jump cuts really.

Music Video Filming Blog

In the past week, my partner and I filmed, and edited our music video. Though there may be some minor edits that still need to be done, for the most part , our video is completed, I would say. My brother helped film a part of the video, when it comes to outside help.

For our filming locations, the first we filmed at was Little Thrift Store, where the owners were exceedingly generous. We were filming a video to their favorite song “Thrift Shop” and ironically enough, in their thrift store they wanted to be as helpful as possible. One of the store owners named Joe, gave me soothing to wear and also agreed to pushing me in a shopping cart.  A kind gesture for someone whom I had just met. We filmed there for 2 days. The first being pretty difficult for certain parts, though when we recruited our brother for a certain part( cut from one person to another behind a shoe rack) it became way easier to pull off.

At Goodwill, we had previously thought were would be denied permission to film at the store though, upon entering the store with our equipment it did not seem as they cared. Filming in there was pretty
Easy. However, there were allot of people who couldn’t seem to keep their eyes off of us.

In editing, finding the right time to end the video was problematic, as it didn’t seem that we had enough footage to stretch past the time barrier. Thankfully we managed, not to mention, the editing that we did being pretty rudimentary, and not needing much to be done expect for a couple of jump cuts back and forth from two different places. It was really how the camera captured our shots that made the video.

All in all, we are proud of this video, especially since we used our own personal cameras to film bringing better quality.

Filming blog

Coming into our Music video assignment, I realized that it might become more difficult for us to film. My partner and I did not take into consideration what the store managers would say when we  ask to film; hopefully, we will not be rejected, though it happens allot from what I’ve witnessed, on countless online videos. Other than that, depending on the decision of thrift store owners, we will be well off from there on due to the concept of our video being quite simple.
To be specific, the locations we chose were GoodWill, and Little Thrift Store. I feel that the LTS would allow us to film for possible , promotional reasons as, clearly stated in its name, it’s a pretty small store on the more unnoticed part of a plaza, I personally feel that the owners may be generous when it comes to  allowing the filming of our music video; however, for our other location there may be a problem. GoodWil, is a thrift store , though on a corporate level. There are many of them through out the country , and they may take the filming of our video on a more serious note. They may prevent us from filming, as they might feel that us simply filming with in a store could ruin there image, based on the music video. Not that we have anything defaming, it  just may simply not be in their best interest.
My partner and I decided that we would try to film  over the weekend. Since during school we can’t be productive, when it comes to filming since our  location is else where. Though, for other students , they may begin filming as of tomorrow in class. We understand that we are kind of at a disadvantage, in terms of filming, though , we will most definitely try our best  to get things done!

Gatorade commercial end/ Music video start

My partner and I finally completed our commercial. I was glad that he could get some parts done without me as there was a family issue that kept me from attending school for several days. While undergoing the process to create our commercial, I would say, only filming went smoothly. I got to film my partner running on the track, and got all the footage in virtually an hour. However, when it came to everything else, it was hard creating the actual commercial. First off, the recorded footage on the SD card was very hard to find, as it never saved into the correct folders. Secondly, for TWO whole days, the editing software, Pinnacle Studios, was down  and did not work. Finally, while editing, for what I was present for, it was pretty difficult to bring our ideas to life, despite the guidance we recieved from our instructors. Thouh, despite all this, we managed to get the job done!

More over, we  learned that we would be doing a new project. This new prject would be to create a music video , for a song of our choice. I was exited to find out that it would be a music video, as I have prior experience to making them. i think it will be a fun experience to make one for myself, as I usually make them for others and thier songs that they make. The song that my partner and I chose is, Thrift Shop, by MackleMore and Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz. I proposed this song to my partner since it would require a small amount of  experience to pull off. Also, in the songs lyrics, MackleMore speaks on lowbudget props that we already have,so execution will be pretty easy.

The genre of this song is hip-hop/rap. In most songs like this they usualy show the artist showing off their money , with expensive clothes, and cars , or what not; while also, containing allot of women, to show off how good their lives are. However, with this song, we are going against this , by going to a thrisft store to show the theme of the song "making the most of a small budget.

Pinnacle Studio Failed

Today, we started the editing process...kind of. Our editing software Pinnacle Studios, did not work. We tried a whole bunch of times but could not get any corporation with the software, on our part. We asked our teachers for help, doing what they could, though their efforts were useless. The software did not want to work with us. We were hoping to go straight into edit since we planned out how we were going in our storyboard, days before filming. We also filmed our last scene to, where we were going to choose from 3 shots.
I waited a little after filming , with my partner who was changing, since outside (Florida weather as usual) is very hot. I wore all black today and was drenched in sweat. Our instructor told us that it would be ok if we were to edit the footage on our own time. This would be with our own mediums. While telling us that it is ok, they did not hesitate when it came to  warning us about being on our own if the  editing softwares were to fail us.
We brushed of their statements. It came off as very hypocritical, since THIER software didn’t even work, or want to open up for use, in the first place. I’m starting to wonder what would happen if they could not provide editing software for us. Would we be forced to flunk?  My partner and I are going to be behind schedule do to this problem, but there is no worries. We already have everything planned out. Thankfully we do, or else we would be in big trouble.

Gatorade Commercial: Filming blog

In class on Thursday, we began filming for our commericial. We decided that we would base it on Gatorade. My partner would be the actor in the actual video, while I filmed. I carried the equipment to our schools field, and made sure that everything ran smoothly. Our camera died midway, during filming, so we’re forced to have to film on Monday of next week. Based on the storyboard I was required to do certain maneuvers for the camera, to get the specific shots that we needed. While my partner was running I stood rather far away , to get a track shot of him running, forcing me to pan the camera Upon the tripod.
Other scenes like where my partner kneeled down, required me to zoom in , while maintains a smooth tilt motion; however it was very difficult to pull off without making the footage seem stiff or choppy, as the hinges on the tripod(WHICH WAS BROKEN) moved on their own. After the tilt in each take of this kneeling scene, I had to revert the camera to how standard position upon the tripod. Again, a very difficult things to do surprisingly. I guess it is because I’m not very good at handling cameras.
Moreover, it was a pretty successful shoot on Thursday, as we only need one more shot. I could honestly say I had fun, apart from it being hot as the devil’s toe, and the oh so annoying flies. My partner had recently had an injuring in he leg, though this may be a serious matter, it didn’t take away from how funny looking he was as he ran in certain takes. When I think about it, it probably should have been me running instead of him.

Gatorade Commercial: Storyboard

So today, my partner and I finished our story boards for our commercial. We decided on doing a Gatorade advertisement, as it was really the only thing that stood out to us. We had previously learned when making our story board each square should be at least 5 seconds, since our commercial should be in total 30 seconds or more, never less.

Upon viewing the storyboard it’s appearent that the drawings are not the best (I’m a talented artist, though my partner decided he wanted to take charge), though it’s clear that the idea would Be comparable to an actual Gatorade commercial. Another factor into our decision on filming this type, because of the little needed to capture the “official” look with our amateur commercial.
We’re looking forward to how fun this will be when it comes time to record, though our only fear is to find someone who looks the part, as we are both (my partner and I) pretty unathletic.

Pinnacle Studio lesson blog

Today in class, our instructor taught us about the editing process. We were  told we would be using a editing software called pinnacle studio, when it came to the films/ media we needed to edit. The instructor made it seem as if it were difficult; however, most of the features within the software were pretty self explanatory. I didn’t really see the purpose of taking notes. They made it seem that there were high stakes when using the software, and warned us about using our own. Apparently if our personal programs were to fail us, our teachers would not be able to help us. Though, upon hearing this my partner and I still dabbled on about how we could use other programs, such as hit film studio, to maximize our editing capabilities. My partner and I are both seniors in high school so we are pressured to do our best, as passing this class is pressured on us the most.
Though the software its  self seemed easy to master, getting the footage from our cameras to our computers to begin the editing process actually seems confusing. Even though we took notes on this matter it was pretty confusing. In the editing process we learned about the three tracks within pinnacle studio. Each track named “Av” has its own purpose, when it comes to building films. Av 1 would be used for  our film titles, like texts and subtitles that are usually seen in movies. Av 3 would be used for music, and sound. We were told to use this for voice overs as well.Lastly, Av 2 is where we would import- moving our footage into the software- our footage. Within this track is where all the visual editing would take place.
We learned about basic cuts and editing, and also a little about file formats with our instructor, showing us the difference between mp3s, and mp4s ( that being mp3s are music, and sound, and mp4 being video based files). Though I had a basic understanding about that topic already.  Im looking forward to filming our upcoming assignments, and then editing them to see how the shots come together to make videos, or films. I feel that today’s lesson got me excited for what’s to come. I know that the films my partner and I create will possibly be the best to have ever been created by mere students.

Introduction

Hey there, My name is Preace Maxi and I Am currently a senior (finally) at Fort Lauderdale high school. I was born on December 13, 2001 in Miami. I’m a Sagittarius, though I don’t believe in any of the nonsense folk lore, fantasy, and fortune telling that comes along with that.I'm striving for fulfillment. I’m  a church goer who is heavily religious and abides by God’s word (mostly, to where I'm considered faithful). Based on this I believe what life has to offer me won’t always be enough to make me feel fulfilled, so that’s why believe in chasing my dreams, instead of the conventional “ go to college, get a job” mindset.
When I graduate in May/June of 2020, I plan on going to Broward College, to save up on money to be able to transfer to another school. I planned on going to FAU, since I’m in my high schools AICE program, which awards a scholarships that provides 100% payment  for any instate colleges(Florida) tuition. Ever since the 6th grade, I've been in the pre-law programs within the schools I have attended. I sought out to be a lawyer, and would probably major in pre-law during college; while on the contrary, minoring in something along the medical lines.
However, when I think about it, I plan on going to college...but I don't want to. I know this may come off as a cheesy "chase your dreams' speech, but when I really think about, and I mean, I think HARD, I don't see myself taking the time to go to school putting in effort into things that I AM NOT INTERESTED in. I was never interested in law. I only took up the "interest" since it was forced upon me by my mother, and it impressed her when I ran with it. She would brag about me, making up lies like " he's been in the law program since he was in kindergarten" or when she still says I'm  only 15 and being accepted to Harvard University. Currently ,as a high school senior, I've decided I would pursue my talents, being art and music, which just happen to be my passions as well. I cant see myself working for someone else, making someone else money. I want to make it on my own, for my own. With that, I would be fulfilled to my own ability since, nothing of this world can really bring me fulfillment, Only God can.
